Wildflowers at McDowell Mountain Regional Park

On March 20, 2015, I returned to McDowell Mountain Regional Park to photograph spring wildflowers. Creosote bushes are covered in yellow flowers. Penstemon are blooming along the numerous washes. Many Hedgehog cacti have started blooming. Buckorn Cholla sport flower buds on all their arms and should bloom spectacularly in the near future.
The Creosote bushes are in full bloom.
Buckhorn Cholla flower buds will be blooming soon.
Penstemon are most common in sandy washes.
Featherduster's have very delicate flowers.
Yellow flowers are blooming all over the Creosote bushes.
The Creosote bush may have provided a sheltered location for the Buckhorn Cholla to grow.
There were just a few Buckhorn Cholla blossoms. There will be many more very soon.

Saguaro cacti have internal skeletons.
Leaves grow along the stems of Ocotilllo when there has been sufficient rainfall.
Red flowers bloom at the tips of the stems of the Ocotillo.
The wood of the Ironswood Tree is so dense that it will sink in water.
Hedgehog cacti are starting to bloom.

Weaver's Needle can be seen in the distance beyond the Ironswood Tree.
Palo Verde Trees have very small leaves and green trunks.

A Cumulus cloud builds over a nearby mountain.
Penstemon are blooming along sandy washes.

A Cactus Wren perches on top of a Saguaro, loudly announcing its presence.
